So fantastic that we went twice in one day! The first was to, on the recommendation of the Inn that we were staying at, catch the afternoon ceilidh. This in and of itself was phenomenal, as the talent for music in Cape Breton is unbounded. But, added to that was the pint, and the fish cakes, both pure perfection. And the staff...they almost seemed like family. We were so impressed that we asked if there would be room for us to get a reservation for dinner. The server went out of their way to make this happen, and the evening meal, and music did not disappoint. Plus, the lobster dinner was one of the cheapest I’ve had in years, while also being one of the best I’ve ever had. This is a must try venue.

Really great spot in Sydney. Location is super convenient. Lots of options for food and draft. Visited the Cabot trail and decided to stay in Sydney, I'm glad I did. This place did not disappoint. There was live music as well. I bet it's amazing in the summer with the patio. I can't wait to come back.

Absolutely love Governors Pub! My boyfriend and I have been here before upstairs inside and this time we got the pleasure of eating outside next to the live music which was great! We got the arancini bites as our appetizer. My boyfriend had the thai wrap with the goat cheese salad, and I had the pulled pork sandwich with the Cape Breton salad. Everything was delicious, service was great even though the place was packed. Highly recommend.

My seafood pasta dish was absolutely amazing. My friend had the fish and she loved it as well. I only took off 1 star for the food as my side bread was a bit burnt, I was so full after eating the dish so I didn’t even notice it. The staff were friendly and were really helpful explaining food options. I’m sure if I asked for new bread I would have gotten it with no issue. We sat in the downstairs dining room (so we were able to talk a bit better) which was more suited for dining experience but the upstairs pub area had amazing live music, such a fun time! The view was also beautiful!

We talked to locals and realize the experience here may be different during tourist (cruise ship) season vs non but wow our experience was nearly perfect. Mind you we are looking for fresh seafood. We started with their mussels which were from Nova Scotia (a first for us) and were large, sweet and very tasty. Cooked to perfection. The garlic bread dipped in the “juice” was equally good. We also shared a bowl of their seafood chowder. So loaded with seafood that there wasn’t enough broth to soak up in the biscuit like bread that was perfectly matched. I had the lobster roll and my wife ordered the halibut. The halibut was the better choice and was served with 2oz of lobster on top. We both opted to sub their maple salad for our starches and the maple vinaigrette was the biggest surprise for both of us. Maple salad is not sweet but is so tasty. My lobster meat in the roll was good but the bread was not toasted and, while good, I would opt for something else next time. Kenzie was our most excellent and attentive server. Their Canadian beer selection was delicious. My wife tried a Nova Scotia vodka raspberry lemonade flat seltzer that she thoroughly enjoyed.

We ate here during our stop in Sydney on our cruise on June 7th. I had seen it recommended while doing some research of things to do while in Sydney. We are so glad we ate here. Such a cool place. The staff was very welcoming and the food was great. We got there early and got a great table out on the 2nd floor terrace. Highly recommend.
